BIOGRAPHY

 

Sandro Ranellucci, born in 1946, is Professor of Architectural Restoration at Gabriele D'Annunzio University, and Professor of Museography at the International University of Art in Florence. He was also Professor of Interior Design at the "Sapienza" University of Rome, and Professor of Museography at the University of Viana do Castelo in Portugal.

 

His office, named “Supervisione dell'Architettura”, is located in Rome, in the Odescalchi Palace, which was designed and modified by Maderno, Bernini, and Vanvitelli.

 

He designed the restoration and the exhibition design of the museum "Casa Museo Signorini Corsi" (L'Aquila, 1998). In 1997 he designed the Museo Civico in L'Aquila and the Archeological Museum MAAQ built in in 2005 within the convent of St. Maria dei Raccomandati.

 

In 1990 he designed the restoration and transformation into hotel of a neogothic skyscraper in Manhattan (NYC). In 2006 he designed offices and showroom for Christie's in Palazzo Lancellotti located in piazza Navona, Rome, originally designed by Carlo Maderno. In 2000 he designed the restoration and interior design of a house in Palazzo Boncompagni in Rome. In 2002 he redesigned the waterfront of the harbor of Civitavecchia, including the ancient Arsenale.

 

In 1988 he designed the exhibition set-up for the megalithic archeological area of St. Martin De Corléans. In 2005 he designed the exhibition set-up for the Museo di Capodimonte in Napoli. In 2003 he designed the set-up of the Arch of Trajan in Benvento. In 1998, he designed the exhibition about the painter Cola dell'Amatrice, located in Amatrice and Ascoli. In 1979 he designed the "Why museum, how museum" exhibition in Cosenza and Genova.

 

In 1998 he designed the offices building for Informatica and Telecomunicazioni in The Pomezia industrial area. In 2000 he designed the Tecnoindex offices building in Pomezia. In 2002, he designed the offices for Aaland in the former industrial building of Lanerossi. In 2002 he designed the offices building for Web I&T in the industrial area of Aprilia (Rome). In 1999 he designed the offices building for Database Informatica / EDS Italia in the industrial area of Pomezia.

 

Several of his works were exhibited within international exhibitions, including: the Architectural Festival of Sofia held at the Central House of Architects (September 18-25th, 2015); the exhibition organized in Los Angeles by the American Institute of Architects and the Woodbury School of Architecture within the Italian Institute of Culture titled "The making of (a new) Rome" (January 2nd - March 1st, 2014), later replicated in Berlin (May 12-29th, 2015); the exhibition organized in Paris within the Italo Calvino library by the Italian Institute of Culture (opening March 11st, 2015); the exhibition titled "Recent works by Roman architects" organized in Tianjin, China (May 22-27th, 2015); the Semana de la Arquitectura organized in San Josè, Costa Rica by the Colegio de Architectos de Costa Rica and the Italian Embassy (October 5-10th, 2015).

 

Sandro Ranellucci wrote several book about museums: Restauro e museografia (Restoration and Museography), Multigrafica, preface by F. Fancelli; Museografia, Bonsignori, preface by F. Minissi; Allestimento e museografia - Dieci anni di corso (Museography and exhibition design - ten years of teaching), preface by F. Minissi; Museum, Trattato di Museografia, Gangemi; Il progetto del museo - Museum design, DEI, Italian and English, preface by F. Gurrieri; Allestimento museale in edifici monumentali (museum design within monumental buildings), Kappa. He's one of the most important scholars about open-air archeological museums. He wrote several books about this topic: Strutture protettive e conservazione dei siti archeologici (Protective structures and conservation of archaeological sites), Carsa ed., preface by F. Minissi; Coperture archeologiche - Allestimenti protettivi sui siti archeologici (Archeological sites roofing), DEI, preface by M. Manieri Elia and M. Dezzi Bardeschi; Conservazione e musealizzazione nei siti archeologici (conservation and exhibit design within archeological sites), Gangemi Editore, preface by M. Dezzi Bardeschi.

He also wrote books about conservation and urban restoration: "Stone Utopies" in L’Aquila nuova by O. Antonini, co-authored by P. Marconi and P. L. Cervellati; Il restauro urbano - Teoria e prassi (urban restoration, theory and practice), Utet; Il restauro ambientale della valle della Caffarella (ambiental restoration of the Caffarella Valley), Palombi; Restauro urbano armonico. Per la decementificazione del territorio. La linea di Benevolo, Cervellati, Marconi (harmonic urban restoration for landscape de-concreting), Gangemi Editore. He also curated the "Manuali del recupero" (manuals of renovation and recovery) about several Italian regions: Manuale del recupero della Regione Abruzzo, DEI, three volumes, preface by L. Benevolo and P. Marconi); Manuale del recupero della Regione Marche, DEI (preface by L. Benevolo, P. L. Cervellati, P. Marconi, F. Mariano).
